🌿 About the Internship (Short + Centered)
This internship is for emerging architects and landscape architects who want to design joyful, justice-centered public spaces rooted in community, celebration, and care.
Working closely with AreshEarth designs and the More Gardens Fund team, interns will help imagine and visualize living, earth-based structures across NYC—using living trees and willows as one of many design tools alongside sacred geometry, participatory design, and ecological thinking.
Projects support neighborhoods in the Lower East Side and South Bronx , centering the leadership, creativity, and lived experience of the majority of people of color .
🌳 What You’ll Design
Interns choose one focus area :
1- Living Tree & Willow Structures
- Pocket forests, planters, bus shelters, and shade structures
2- Earth-Based Amphitheater Stages
- Community garden and underpass stages for music, gathering, and ceremony
3- Nature-Based Playgrounds
- Imaginative, culturally rooted play spaces for children and families
Living trees and woven willow are used as tools for storytelling, shade, play, and ecological healing
✏️ What You’ll Do
- Create renderings, drawings, and 3D models (Rhino/Grasshopper, AutoCAD, SketchUp)
- Translate sacred geometry into accessible, buildable community designs
- Learn AreshEarth’s design language, blending biomorphic, organic, permaculture, sacred geometry, and Feng Shui principles
- Develop clear construction visuals that support community co-building
- Collaborate with gardeners, youth, artists, and organizers
- Build a portfolio of living, justice-centered urban designs
🛠 Who This Is For
- Architecture or Landscape Architecture students / recent grads
- Interest in community-led design, environmental justice, and natural building
- Working knowledge of Rhino + Grasshopper (tutorial provided)
- Excited by collaboration, culture, and designing with—not for—communities
📍 Logistics
- Dates: Jan 18 – Apr/May, 2026 (earlier start possible)
- Time: 13–32 hrs/week, flexible
- Format: In Person, Remote, or Hybrid (NYC-based projects)
- Compensation: Unpaid · Travel & food stipends
- Credit: College credit possible
- Pathway: Opportunity to grow into paid seasonal roles or fellowships
