The Commissions Specialist is responsible for executing and optimizing the operational processes tied to agent compensation in the life insurance, annuity, disability, and long-term care (LTC) product space. This role blends analytical expertise with strong operational execution, ensuring commission payouts are accurate, timely, and compliant with internal compensation structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage compensation frameworks, including setting up and maintaining commission grids and structures.
  • Administer commission payments through insurance carrier systems, internal tools, and platforms such as Excel and I-pipeline Agency Integrator.
  • Analyze and verify payout calculations, resolving discrepancies proactively.
  • Use SuranceBay to support contracting automation and streamline commission-related processes; maintain proficiency in its tools and updates.
  • Develop and maintain detailed compensation models and documentation.
  • Track and audit compensation activity for accuracy and compliance.
  • Work closely with accounting, agent support, and sales leadership to support compensation inquiries and strategic planning.
  • Support ad hoc reporting and analysis related to agent compensation performance.
  • Contribute to the refinement of compensation policies and system improvements.
  • Identify carrier discrepancies with commissions
  • Understand the various commission hierarchies with agencies, producers and insurance carriers.

Data Tracking and Excel Proficiency

This role encompasses the tracking of data and the application of basic Excel formulas. A critical skill for success in this position is the ability to read and interpret commission statements, along with a strong familiarity with the diverse styles of various carriers. Additionally, responsibilities include data entry and the creation of accounts payable invoices based on the collected data.

Chargeback Management

The position requires an understanding of chargebacks and the ability to address them effectively; as well as collaborate with numerous carriers.

Knowledge of Life and Annuity Commissions

A diverse understanding of Life and Annuity commission statements is essential. Responsible for creating reports that keep leadership informed about the funds required in advance.

Commission Schedules and Producer Payouts

Understand commission schedules in relation to producer payouts. This knowledge is tied closely to agency contracting, and you will work to create consistency in how producer contracts are structured and how they correlate with compensation.

Embracing Multi-Tasking and Initiative

The ability to multitask and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in compensation, finance operations, or insurance agency support.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft 365 tools, including advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP), Outlook, Word, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Experience with or ability to quickly become proficient in SuranceBay , I-pipeline Agency Integrator Excel tracking or similar insurance automation software.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Familiarity with life, annuity, disability and LTC insurance products is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
